Every man must do two things alone; he must do his own believing and his own dying. Martin Luther

And if you’re very, very lucky, there are a very few blazing hot little pains you feel when you realized that you are standing in a moment of utter perfection, an instant of triumph, or happiness, or mirth which at the same time cannot possibly last – and yet will remain with you for life.

Everyone is down on pain, because they forget something important about it: Pain is for the living. Only the dead don’t feel it.

Pain is a part of life. Sometimes it’s a big part, and sometimes it isn’t, but either way, it’s a part of the big puzzle, the deep music, the great game. Pain does two things: It teaches you, tells you that you’re alive. Then it passes away and leaves you changed. It leaves you wiser, sometimes. Sometimes it leaves you stronger. Either way, pain leaves its mark, and everything important that will ever happen to you in life is going to involve it in one degree or another.”

“the frog in the well knows not of the great ocean”

 いのなかのかわずたいかいをしらず

(i no naka no kawazu, taikai o shirazu)

Explanation: This proverb is a metaphor for being mentally trapped by a narrow understanding of things.

Note: kawazu is the old way to say “frog”, in modern Japanese they are called kaeru

Night calls, frogs, not sleeping

MIRANDA AITKEN

It was spring and full moon and I thought

I heard voices in the night but

It was only the frogs singing about

the river and the spring and the moon

So I listened to their watery voices and felt gladdened

they had something to say

“Though one should be prepared to vomit rather frequently and disport with pink elephants and assorted grotesqueries while trying often unsuccessfully to make one’s way to the toilet.”

Quotes about Elephants

“You can’t try. Trying is a struggle and doing is an act. You can’t witness the act of trying, but you can see the results of doing. Trying brings on stress because not only do you have the problem, but now you have all this frustration with it not going away just because you want it to. It’s kind of like being told not to think of pink elephants—impossible.
What you have to do is stop. You say to yourself, this is over for now. I’m done for
now. Take your mind to another place and concentrate on that peaceful place. Deep
breaths. Go limp. Put your mind in another state. It takes practice, but it gets easier,
over time.”

― Robyn Carr, Forbidden Falls

When you can stop you don’t want to, and when you want to stop, you can’t.

Nicked from the site of ”Mothers of Addicts”.

Hello,
My name is Jana….I have recently lost my beautiful sister to a heroin over dose. It is heartbreaking to say the very least. She was my only sister. My brother was lost as well to alcohol addiction. He had been drinking heavily and had a motorcycle accident. It was so odd that they both had severe head injury. My sister’s due to heroin over dose. My brother due to the accident. I have a poem about addiction that I would like to submit if you do not mind putting it on your site.  If it can say it to just one lost and lonely addict then I will feel I may have done something worth while.  Here is the poem:

"powder"
I long for sleep,
but can it bring me rest,
or peace for a time at best,
I think not,
for theres no rest for the weary,
and its hard to see through eyes filled with teary,
salty liquid that falls on my page,
and I am so very aware of my age.
And I long to go back
to start the journey again,
to never have found
such a dark dark friend,
who torments the soul,
where the drug addicts go,
when they travel the road of snow white.
